Inter Milan vs. AC Milan – Both Inter and AC Milan are in the Serie A title chase and will face at San Siro on Tuesday. They’re only two points apart.  The winner of the 27th Derby Della Madonnina in Coppa history will face either Fiorentina or Juventus in the final. Following last month’s dull 0-0 draw in the first leg, the balance between these two powerhouses of Italian football is tightly poised, while Inter has won the Coppa Italia seven times to Milan’s five.

Last year, the Nerazzurri won the Scudetto ahead of their greatest rivals, and the two teams have stayed embroiled in a struggle for the major honours this season.  Milan won their last league meeting 2-1 in February, with Olivier Giroud scoring a late brace to deny Inter, and they remain marginally ahead following Good Friday’s events.

Inter had previously defeated Spezia 2-0 at Stadio Alberto Picco, with Marcelo Brozovic scoring his first league goal of the season, but Milan quickly reclaimed the Serie A lead.

Simone Inzaghi’s team still have a game in hand on their Scudetto rivals and may complete a domestic double by beating their Rossonero rivals.  Cup glory takes precedence over the championship chase, and ending a lengthy barren drought for Italy’s second city in the competition will be on both clubs’ minds.

While Inter haven’t won the cup since 2003, Milan haven’t won it since 2003. The dull March Derby gives Tuesday’s “visitors” a tiny advantage as they seek their first Coppa Italia since Andriy Shevchenko and Rivaldo.   Because the semi-finals are the only stage where two teams meet, and the away goals rule is not phased out until next season, each goal counts twice for Milan.

It’s a record that should inspire Stefano Pioli’s side, who reached this round by overcoming Genoa and Lazio. Despite this, the Rossoneri recently drew 0-0 with Bologna and Torino without the help of ex-Inter striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but beat struggling Genoa 1-0 on Friday.

Only a late goal from Junior Messias sealed the win for the club chasing its first title since 2011. But before they return to Serie A duty on Sunday, Milan must first strive to extend a 13-game unbeaten run and clinch a place in next month’s final.

Inter Milan vs. AC Milan – Betting Analysis

While the away goals rule may influence both teams’ tactics – Milan may be content to sit back and wait for an opportunity – Inter’s superior goal threat should carry them through to the final.  The Nerazzurri may win this semi-final since they have more attacking options than their opponents.
