But it was with Southampton where he established himself as a regular in the Premier League, making 256 games during a seven-year spell at the St. Mary’s Stadium until he left in 2022. This was followed by a transfer to Chelsea a few months later.

Romeu, who was a mainstay for Girona throughout the previous campaign, will now play for Barcelona, where he will be reunited with his former teammate Xavi.
