Trabzonspor vs Monaco – In their fourth Europa League group stage match on Thursday, Trabzonspor may extend their unbeaten run at Medical Park Stadyumu to seven matches in all competitions.

Les Monegasques defeated the incumbent Turkish champions 3-1 in the Principality last week, putting three points ahead of them in Group H. On matchday two of the Europa League, the Turks had a man advantage against Red Star Belgrade. Last week, they had the opposite.

In the 11th minute against Monaco, Trabzonspor lost their second away match of the competition after a stupid challenge. They have kept five clean sheets in their previous seven home games in all competitions, including a 0-0 draw against Kasimpasa on Monday.

On matchday four, they would win consecutive European home games for the first time since November 2014. Trabzonspor have never defeated a French team in Europe, drew Lille 1-1 in the 2011-12 Champions League.

Abdullah Avci’s club has lost two of their nine matches domestically, one fewer than in their 2021-22 title-winning season. Their past two triumphs domestically have come despite losing the first goal, scoring twice in the final 22 minutes to upset Kayserispor 2-1 at the beginning of October and overturning a 2-0 deficit vs Gaziantep last month, winning 3-2.

Monaco have won four straight matches in all competitions since their Europa League matchday two setback to Ferencvaros. Philippe Clement’s side have proved challenging to break down away from home, without a goal surrendered in their past four road matches in all competitions, while being immensely potent at Stade Louis II, winning both of their home clashes this month by a combined score of 7-2.

Previous month, their quality in the attacking third at times was non-existent as they scored a goal or fewer in three of their five contests, but they have come alive offensively since their Europa League setback versus the Hungarians, notching 12 goals in their last four games.

This team has struggled in Turkey, winning only one of five Super Lig matches, at Galatasaray in the 1993-94 Champions League group stage (2-0). After beating Red Star Belgrade 1-0 in their Group H opener, Les Monegasques would win successive road games in major European competitions for the first time since February 2015 if they win on Thursday.

Monaco have not been consistent on the road in Europe, but so far in 2022-23 they are in good form domestically away from home, winning four of their first five Ligue 1 fixtures as the visitors, the best start for them on the road since the 1991-92 campaign.
