Salernitana vs Spezia – Although Salernitana manager Davide Nicola referred to Inter Milan as “the best team in Italy” prior to his team’s 2-0 loss to them in Serie A (SA) last Saturday, that statement did not lessen the strain that had been mounting on him all week.

A question mark hangs over Nicola’s head after three losses in the previous four games (W1), but a mid-table spot at least provides Salernitana breathing room thanks to an increased ten-game point total compared to last season (ten vs. seven).

The attitude in the camp may change with a victory, but a loss to a Spezia team that is only one point worse off could cause Salernitana to fall farther down the standings. As their current four-game SA home form (W2, D1, L1), in which they have averaged 2.25 goals scored per game, demonstrates, points are definitely feasible at home, playing on familiar ground may somewhat increase their chances of winning.

Salernitana vs Spezia – Betting Analysis

With a 2-2 draw against Cremonese last weekend, Spezia snapped a two-game losing streak. This matchup featured two of SA’s most hospitable defenses. Spezia started their league campaign with a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory over Empoli, but they were unable to capitalize on that success, giving up an average of 2.11 goals per game in their subsequent nine SA games, which was a major factor in their lackluster performances throughout that period (W1, D3, L5).

The forward line isn’t entirely innocent however; they haven’t scored in five of their previous nine league games, but the fact that they’ve somehow scored twice in the other four games demonstrates that they can find the back of the goal. It does get worse for Spezia though, who have lost their last five away SA games “to nil” and are now dangerously close to matching Napoli’s distasteful 1939–40 record of losing the first six away top-flight games without scoring.

Watch out for Salernitana’s Krzysztof Pitek, who scored his solitary career goal against Spezia in a 2-1 victory and has seen his past two SA goals arrive before halftime. Could Emmanuel Gyasi finally give Spezia a South African away goal? If he scores, it might be late because his last three club goals have strangely all come in either first-half stoppage time or second-half stoppage time.
