A look at “Mason Mount says goodbye to Chelsea fans after joining Manchester United” The offensive midfielder, now 24 years old, had been playing for Chelsea since he was six years old. He progressed through the club’s academy and made it to the first squad, where he has since become an England international.
However, he has decided to break his lengthy affiliation with the club in order to complete a £55 million transfer to Premier League rivals Manchester United.
Mount has been in Carrington this week to finalize the parameters of the transaction. Despite the fact that United has not yet officially confirmed the deal, an announcement is expected to be made soon.
Mount greeted the Chelsea supporters by saying, “Hi. It’s possible that you have already made this assumption given the rumors that have circulated over the past half year, but even if you have, it won’t make it any simpler for me to inform you that I’ve decided to quit Chelsea.
“I feel you deserve more than just a written statement, so I wanted to tell you directly how grateful I have been for all of your support over the course of the past 18 years. Thank you for everything!” Those are the exact words that I wanted to say to you.
“I am aware that some of you won’t be pleased with my decision, but it is what I feel is best for me at this juncture in my professional life.
“I joined Chelsea when I was six years old, and together we have been through a lot together, including winning the Youth Cup, my Player of the Year accolades, the Super Cup, the Club World Cup, and of course, that wonderful night when we won the Champions League.
“I want to say thank you to the academy, Jim Fraser and Neil Bath, for being so influential to me from such a young age, the managers I’ve worked under, Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel, and Graham Potter, the backroom staff, the unsung heroes of Cobham, all of my teammates over the years that have become my brothers, my family for the continuous love and support, and most importantly, you guys for sticking with me throughout.”
Mount has been getting to know his new teammates since arriving at Man United’s practice facility on Monday to complete his medical.
In the transfer window, Kai Havertz, Mateo Kovacic, and Kalidou Koulibaly are among the players that have left Stamford Bridge in addition to Mount.
In fact, he made his competitive Chelsea debut against United in August 2019, but it wasn’t a memorable one as the Blues were defeated 4-0 at Old Trafford.
But during his time there, he was able to achieve a great deal of success, including winning the Champions League, the Super Cup, and the Club World Cup.
Mount, who has 129 games and 27 goals in the Premier League, could now make his debut for Erik ten Hag’s team in a preseason friendly against Leeds in Oslo.
Mount’s current contract was set to expire in the summer following the one in which it was being discussed, but Chelsea had already rejected three offers from United to purchase him.
In spite of the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino as Chelsea’s new manager, the two teams eventually reached a deal on the transfer fee, with Mount making it plain he wanted to leave. United has already invested £55 million, with a possible $5 million in add-ons.
