Malta vs Estonia – Group D2 of this season’s UEFA Nations League (UNL) represents Malta’s toughest test yet, but the 2-0 away win over San Marino was an excellent way to get the campaign started. As they gear up for their first of only two home games, the Maltese can finally begin their long-awaited climb out of League D.

The majority of Malta’s UNL home record (W1, D4, L1) is made up of stalemates with a 1-1 scoreline, however the country has struggled to capitalize on recent successes at the Ta’Qali National Stadium.

Malta vs Estonia – Betting Analysis

Estonia’s 2-0 win over San Marino in the opening game of the UNL season can only inspire the 2020/21 relegation victims. In a friendly against Argentina, they lost 5-0 and let Lionel Messi become the third player in history to score five goals in a single international match. So they’ll be ready to get their first UNL road win since November 2018 (and revved up about it!).

For the first time since failing to score in two World Cup ’94 qualifiers, Malta and the Baltics will face off in a competitive match. Even if Estonia were able to duplicate their 1990s record of zero goals, it would be considered as an enormous setback in their pursuit for immediate promotion to the second tier of European football.

Several players to keep an eye on: Malta’s Jan Busuttil scored the game-winning goal against San Marino in their UNL opener, while Estonia’s first-round victory was made possible in part by the goal scored by Robert Kirss, who was making his international debut against the Sammarinese.
