England wins gold and silver in 3×3 basketball at the Commonwealth Games.

Myles Hesson’s overtime buzzer-beater gave England its first gold in men’s 3×3 basketball at the Commonwealth Games when it defeated Australia 17-16.

The women of England, meanwhile, suffered grief as they were awarded silver after falling to Canada 14-13.

Despite the different outcomes, both games were stressful affairs, and they helped the hosts of the event to a successful tournament.

Hesson declared, “I’m going to take this moment with me for the rest of my life.”

We’ve been working extremely hard as a four for the past two months; this has been a two-year process.

“After only a short while, we’ve pushed one of the top teams in the world, Australia. Imagine what we could do if we could push this right away.

The men of England had trounced Australia in their group match, but the championship game would be completely different.

With 24 seconds remaining, Kayne Henry appeared to have given England the victory with a two-point shot, but Australia answered with just 10 seconds remaining to tie the game at 15-15 and force overtime.

Jesse Wagstaff of Australia scored the opening goal in overtime for a 16-15 advantage. However, England persisted, and when Daniel Johnson’s missed two was scrambled to Hesson, he splashed his effort from the corner without error.

In the women’s final, neither side was able to gain the upper hand as they traded buckets for the majority of the first half.

As the clock trickled down, there wasn’t much between the two teams, but Canada managed to take advantage of their opportunities and squeak out a 13-12 victory with 10 seconds left.

When Cheridene Green tied the game with five seconds left, it appeared that England would force the game into overtime once more. But Sarah Te-Biasu of Canada managed to escape on a drive to the basket, and her layup at the buzzer gave Canada the victory.
