AFC Wimbledon vs Gillingham – AFC Wimbledon‘s away form continues to deteriorate, as they were held to a goalless draw by Hartlepool United on Saturday.

AFC Wimbledon and Gillingham kick off their EFL Cup campaigns on Tuesday when they meet at the Cherry Red Records Stadium in the first round.

Both teams met in this season’s League Two opening on July 30, with Johnny Jackson’s side cruising to a 2-0 win in front of their home fans. Both sides were guilty of a lacklustre effort at the attacking end of the ball in an end-to-end game at Victoria Park, failing to convert their chances before settling for a share of the spoils.

Wimbledon have now failed to win on the road in any of their competitive excursions since the turn of the year, managing four draws and losing nine, with their last away win coming on December 7 when they defeated Accrington Stanley 2-0.

Johnnie Jackson’s team, who were relegated from League One last season, have now won just one of their previous six games in all competitions, drawing two and losing twice.

AFC Wimbledon vs Gillingham – Betting Analysis

Gillingham, like the hosts, were relegated from League One last season after finishing 21st in the league standings with 40 points from 46 games, only one goal difference below 20th-placed Fleetwood Town.

The Gills began their League Two campaign on July 30 with a 2-0 setback away to AFC Wimbledon before rebounding to gain a hard-earned 1-0 victory over Rochdale the following week.

Scott Kashket’s ninth-minute strike was enough to separate the sides at the Priestfield Stadium, as Robbie Stockdale’s men suffered their third consecutive defeat in all competitions.

Gillingham have now failed to win any of their previous four competitive away games, drawing one and losing three since a 2-1 success over Accrington Stanley in March.

While Neil Harris’ side will be seeking to break their cup drought and start their cup campaign on a strong note, they will face an opponent whom they have failed to defeat in their last four attempts, losing twice and drawing twice since a 2-1 victory in November 2020.
