The head of Bayern Munich gives an update on Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Kane as Chelsea tries to sign them.

Oliver Kahn explained why Bayern Munich didn’t want to sign Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo. However, he hasn’t ruled out a move for Tottenham striker Harry Kane. After Robert Lewandowski left for Barcelona this summer, the two have been linked to the Bavarian club.

The Bundesliga champions aren’t the only team that has been linked to the two Premier League stars, though. Chelsea has also been rumoured to be interested in signing the pair. The new owner, Todd Boehly, met with Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes. They talked about a possible move for Ronaldo to Stamford Bridge as he looks to leave Old Trafford.

Harry Kane

Even though it seems unlikely, SportBILD says that Kane is a target for the Blues. He has just two years left on his contract with Tottenham, which is a rival club. Like Bayern, Chelsea needs to make a change at centre forward during the transfer window.

The Blues spent a lot of money last summer to try to fix this problem. They re-signed Romelu Lukaku for a club-record fee to try to fix it. But the Belgian didn’t live up to expectations, so he went back to Inter Milan on loan for the next season.

Raheem Sterling has joined the west London team, but Thomas Tuchel is still looking for a No. 9 who can score goals. There have been some problems in front of the goal during pre-season, and the coach has complained that he only has the “same players” to choose from.

Ronaldo and Kane could be the answer to that problem, but if they tried to get either one, they might have to fight off other teams. In an interview with Fabrizio Romano of SportBILD, Bayern president Oliver Kahn talked about signing both players. He said of the Portuguese striker, “We talked about Cristiano Ronaldo internally. I think he is one of the best footballers of all time.”

“Then we came to the conclusion that, even though we liked Cristiano, he didn’t fit with our philosophy right now.” That could make it easy for the Blues to sign the 37-year-old player this summer, but Kane could be a different story.

When asked about the Spurs talisman, he added: “I can just say that Harry Kane is an outstanding striker who is now under contract at Tottenham.” While he didn’t hint at a move or any interest, he did not deny the move as he did with Ronaldo, suggesting there may be something in the works. Meanwhile, football.london understand that Kane is open to talks over a new deal at Tottenham, with the addition of Antonio Conte and strength displayed in the transfer market helping to prove they match the England captain’s ambition. Spurs have not yet approached Kane over a new contract due to the busy nature of their summer so far, but the offer is expected to arrive with the player’s renewed happiness in North London.
