Real Madrid are hitting form at exactly the right time in this punishing La Liga (LL) title race, accumulating five La Liga (LL) victories in a six-game period. Notably, Real’s last four victories have all been preceded by HT leads, and ‘Los Blancos’ now return home, where they have taken maximum points in five of their last six LL outings.
Impressively, Real Madrid scored exactly two goals in all of those five wins mentioned above. Zinedine Zidane’s men are also one of just five clubs to have recorded seven HT leads at home at the beginning of the round, but stand as the only team of the five to enjoy a perfect record (W7) when doing so.
Amid just one defeat in ten LL games (W5, D4), Real Betis remain top-six hopefuls. Yet they have thus far won just one of 11 clashes vs fellow LL clubs placed seventh or higher at the completion of the previous round (W1, D4, L6), while also winning just 12.50% of overall LL matches entered as an outsider this season (W2, D4, L10).
Betis’ troubles against stronger opponents also persist in their away league form, with the Seville outfit losing on all of their three other LL road trips to current top-four opposition this term. They lost by an average margin of 2.0 goals across that trio, while also conceding the same average per game in the second half alone.
Players to watch: Karim Benzema has been Real Madrid’s first scorer in an impressive four of their last six LL home fixtures. On a similar note, Betis’ first goalscorer in the previous H2H was Aissa Mandi, who changed the scoreline to 1-1 at the time, and has thus seen three of his four prior headed LL strikes come second in the overall match goal order.
