GERMANY: Bundesliga

Venue: Red Bull Arena (Leipzig)

Two favourites for the Bundesliga crown clash here as former RB Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann brings his Bayern Munich side to the east of Germany for the first time. There’ll also be Leipzig reunions for Marcel Sabitzer and Dayot Upamecano but regardless, Leipzig fans will hope their side can put the title-holders to the sword and extend their current four-game unbeaten Bundesliga home run in the process (W2, D2).

At the forefront of Leipzig minds will be breaking a winless streak of six top-flight H2Hs, and doing so would help improve what is currently their worst-ever start to a Bundesliga campaign (W1, L2). Their home form could provide that respite as Leipzig have lost just once across their last ten top-flight matches here (W6, D3), whilst a thumping 4-0 victory in their 2021/22 home opener vs Stuttgart should have further boosted morale.

Standing in Leipzig’s way are 31-time German champions Bayern, who unsurprisingly remain unbeaten after three matchdays (W2, D1). They head into this clash after a resounding 5-0 victory over struggling Hertha Berlin last time out, a result that will have been a welcome relief for Nagelsmann after two much tougher opening matches. That emphatic win also means Bayern have scored an impressive average of 2.95 goals per match across their last 20 Bundesliga outings.

Winless in three top-flight fixtures on the road (D2, L1), Bayern fans will have reservations here considering all three of those fixtures came vs teams not predicted to be in the title race. However, a near full clean bill of health leaves the visitors with plenty of firepower.

Players to watch: This term, Dominik Szoboszlai has already scored three times in four competitive matches for Leipzig as he looks to put last season’s injury-plagued campaign behind him. Robert Lewandowski is already in scintillating form, returning seven goals in four 2021/22 competitive matches for Bayern.
