It’s fair to say Paris Saint-Germain have come out fighting in response to losing their Ligue 1 crown last season, with this summer’s big-name recruitment drive aiding them in shooting six points clear at the top of the table. They were rocked last time out though, going down 2-0 away to Rennes and are now at risk of losing back-to-back Ligue 1 matches for the first time since September 2020.

Keen to both avoid that and get back into the win column, the Parisians will be fairly pleased to be welcoming Angers, a team they’ve not lost to in 21 consecutive Ligue 1 meetings (W14, D7) – that’s their longest unbeaten run against a single top-flight opponent!

Not only is that a dominating H2H record from a results perspective, but the lopsidedness of the recent encounters will be a big concern for fans of Angers – their side lost each of the last four competitive meetings by an aggregate scoreline of 16-1! There’s more optimism in the air under new coach Gérald Baticle this season though, and Angers start the weekend inside the top four after losing just one of their opening nine Ligue 1 games (W4, D4, L1).

Throughout the visitors’ solid early-season form, there’s been a familiar theme of finishing games better than the way they started them. This point is captured by the fact that Angers have led at the break only once (HT: W1, D5, L3), and have scored 79% of their goals after half-time.

Players to watch: It’s surely only a matter of time before Kylian Mbappé finds the net given that he’s failed to score in his last four Ligue 1 games – his longest drought since May 2018. After 21 Ligue 1 appearances without a goal last season, teenager Mohamed-Ali Cho has two already this term, including in his most recent appearance.
