England – Premier League
Date: Sunday, 4 April 2021
Kick-off at 19:30 UK/ 20:30 CET
Venue: Old Trafford, Manchester
Unbeaten in nine league matches (W4, D5), Manchester United resume the fight for second place in the Premier League (PL) against a side they’ve beaten in five straight competitive H2Hs, only once therein failing to net exactly three times. Hard to break down, they’ve also gone four league games without conceding (W2, D2) for the first time since January 2018.
Additionally, Man Utd are unbeaten in four home league matches (W3, D1), scoring an average of four goals per game therein. Having additionally won all three prior PL H2Hs here, the ‘Red Devils’ are overwhelming favourites, but they’ve won a surprisingly modest 53.85% of home league fixtures when favoured by the bookmakers this term (W7, D2, L4).
Brighton and Hove Albion remain firmly in danger of losing their top-flight status, but a recent 3-0 win over Newcastle lifted them clear of the relegation zone. Curiously, they scored two goals from outside the box in a league game for the first time since April 2017 on that occasion!
Having scored an average of one goal per game across their last five PL away fixtures (W3, D1, L1), the ‘Seagulls’ mightn’t be intimidated by visiting Old Trafford after claiming four points from their last two PL trips to the Northwest (W1, D1). However, they’ll struggle if they concede first, having only rescued one point after doing so on the road this term (D1, L5).
Players to watch: Paul Pogba (MUN) has netted three competitive goals against Brighton, twice in or after the 80th minute, while all three of his PL goals this season have come after HT. Meanwhile, Lewis Dunk – who scored an own goal in the reverse fixture – has netted two of Brighton’s last three PL goals away from home. Both were first-half game-openers.
