A few weeks after announcing a deal with Ajax, United has finally been able to confirm the transfer of versatile defender Martinez. United have paid an initial fee of £46.8 million for the Argentine, which could rise to £55.3 million. Erik ten Hag has added Martinez to his defensive options after the pair had great success together in Amsterdam. The 24-year-old has signed a five-year contract extension at Old Trafford until 2027, with the option of an additional year.

Martinez will also wear No.6 – the number vacated by Paul Pogba – in his first season in the Premier League.
