Date: Saturday, 01 May 2021
Kick-off at 16:30 UK/ 16:30 CET
Venue: Erve Asito (Almelo)
Heracles Almelo could finish the gameweek inside a play-off position, although to do so they’ll surely need to secure a victory here. However, that’s not guaranteed given that they’ve won just one of their last four Eredivisie games (D1, L2). Excitingly though, seven of their last eight produced over 2.5 goals.
Hitting great form at the right time here, Heracles’ only defeat across their last eight home games came vs Ajax (W5, D2), and four of those five victories were ‘to nil’. Scoring first has been vital to their success and they’ve picked up 23 of their 24 home point haul when netting first (W7, D2). This includes home victories by 2+ goals and ‘to nil’ against the other three sides starting the gameweek inside the bottom four.
Up the creek without a paddle are VVV-Venlo who are currently enduring their worst-ever Eredivisie losing streak (L11). The introduction of manager Jos Luhukay hasn’t improved their form (L4), and they’re now without a goal in 291 minutes of play since their first and only one under him vs PEC Zwolle. Additionally, they’ve conceded in each of their previous four halves of football.
In fact, hapless Venlo have now conceded 2+ goals in six consecutive league trips, and have also shipped the opener in a league-high 12, recovering only four points when doing so (W1, D1, L10). That appears a poor return considering they’ve scored an average of 1.13 goals after HT on the road, compared to 0.33 before.
Players to watch: Watch out for these reliable scorers! Heracles’ Rai Vloet (15 goals – 41.67% of his team’s total) and Venlo’s Georgios Giakoumakis (24 goals – 61.54% of his team’s total) are the two highest contributing players to their respective team’s overall league goal tallies.

- Venlo’ form in last 5 matches: LLLLL.
