FCSB vs Silkeborg – Despite being FCSB’s 20th consecutive season in Europe, this one is already proving to be one of their worst. Their fragile chances of advancing to the knockout round of the competition could be ended today if the hosts fail to avenge last week’s humiliating 5-0 loss to Silkeborg, who are currently bottom of UEFA Europa Conference League (UECL) Group D.

The pressure is rising on manager Nicolae Dică, who only took over in the summer. The Romanian team did recover in domestic play over the weekend with a 2-0 away success against Petrolul Ploiești, but that was just their second victory in their previous nine competitive games (D3, L4). Given that FCSB has lost each of their previous three European group stage home games, it is difficult to see him relieving that strain here (D2, L1).

FCSB vs Silkeborg – Betting Analysis

The decisive victory for Silkeborg was their joint-largest in European competition, but more importantly, it put them back in the running for the knockout round after two UECL losses. As a result, they will begin the round only one point behind Anderlecht, who are now in second place. However, they were only able to follow that victory up with a 1-1 draw at OB over the weekend, leaving them traveling having just won one of their previous five competitive road games (D1, L3).

Not only will they be attempting to improve upon a recent dismal away record, but they also have a rather dismal road record in European play. Since Silkeborg is playing in Europe for the first time in 21 years, they may be motivated to win here by the possibility of making the playoffs after losing their last nine away games (D1, L8).

Key battle: With 14 UECL goals allowed this season (including qualifications), FCSB’s tefan Târnovanu may be in for another hard evening. This is more than any other goalie in the league. Tonni Adamsen of Silkeborg, who has scored three goals in his last three games, each coming on or after the 70th minute, will be his opponent.
