Charlton vs QPR – In order to go to the second round of the EFL Cup, Queens Park Rangers (of the Championship) will travel to Charlton Athletic (of League One) on Tuesday night.

The visitors enter the game on the strength of a 3-2 Championship success over Middlesbrough on Saturday, while Charlton is riding a 1-0 League One triumph over Derby County.

Last season, Charlton finished 13th in League One with 59 points after playing in 46 games. They were 24 points behind the playoff cutoff, so they have some work to do if they want to make a run at the Championship in 2023-2024.

The 2022-23 League One season has gotten off to a great start for the Addicks, who are now in fifth place after opening with a 2-2 draw against Accrington Stanley on July 30 and then beating Derby 1-0 on Saturday to earn four points.

Even though Charlton has never won the League Cup, they did win the FA Cup in 1947 thanks to a 1-0 victory over Burnley thanks to a goal scored by Chris Duffy.

Charlton vs QPR – Betting Analysis

Even though Ben Garner’s squad knows they have more pressing matters to attend to this season, they may find early success in the EFL Cup beneficial as they try to build momentum for the rest of the regular season.

While QPR lost their first 2022-23 Championship game, 1-0 to Blackburn Rovers on July 30, they bounced back with a 3-2 victory over Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Three goals by Michael Beale’s team in the first 38 minutes put them in a commanding position to take all three points, and they held on to win despite two goals from Boro before and after the break.

Beale, 41, was named first-team manager in June after serving as a coach at Aston Villa under Steven Gerrard. The Hoops finished 11th in the Championship last season, nine points out of the playoffs.

In 1967, QPR beat West Bromwich Albion 3-2 to win the League Cup, and in 1982, they advanced to the FA Cup final. Rangers advanced beyond the first three rounds of the League Cup last season, defeating Leyton Orient, Oxford United, and Everton before being eliminated by Sunderland in the round of 16.
