Basel vs Zalgiris – In Group H of the UEFA Europa Conference League (UECL), Basel and Algiris are separated by just three points heading into matchday five. The goal for Basel is rather straightforward; if they win, they advance to the knockout rounds. However, with just one win in their previous six games (D3, L2), this outcome is not guaranteed, and anything less could result in a tense final group game against Pyunik.

Basel’s failure to score in four of those six games will likely cause Alexander Frei great concern. Goals were also in short supply in the opposite head-to-head, which Frei’s team won by a solitary goal. The fact that St. Jakob-Park has won 16 of its past 19 home European matches gives fans there reason to believe that they can achieve a spot in the knockout rounds here.

Basel vs Zalgiris – Betting Analysis

Algiris, despite leading the group, still has qualification goals of their own, but they may be dashed if they lose to Pyunik and Pyunik wins against Slovan Bratislava. Five straight wins across all competitions should increase their chances of at least making it to the final matchday, and their most recent UECL victory—a 2-1 triumph over Pyunik—now presents the chance to record back-to-back triumphs for the UECL.

However, given that Algiris have lost their last four away games in Europe, it will be more difficult to accomplish that feat given that this game will be played away from home (D1, L3). Alarmingly, they were scoreless in each of those contests. However, with twice as many away goals as any other team in their domestic league this year, there is hope that Algiris may break their scoring drought today.

Players to keep an eye on: Andi Zeqiri of Basel scored the game-winning goal in the reverse H2H, and three of his previous four goals have come in the second half. After scoring on both of Algiris’ previous road trips, perhaps Donatas Kazlauskas will be the one to break their goalless away record.
